Although a playroom can be easily created, just like any type of loft conversion it has to be designed and built in accordance with building regulations. Some people think that a simple loft ladder can be installed along with some basic boarding out, a roof window fitted to provide natural light and that's it. Wrong! No matter what the conversion is for, we still need to comply with building regulations. We therefore have to create architectural plans and, if we are going to be cutting out structural timbers, even just one rafter, then we also need to carry out structural calculations and put forward a structural solution which has to be approved by the building inspector prior to the works commencing.
